Food in French

Stenkulaskolan

Description

A group of 5 students, 15-16 years old. None of the students have Swedish as their mother tongue.

Goals

Students should be able to express themselves in a practical situation because the students themselves thought it was the most needed. In addition, students should familiarize themselves with French everyday words used for food and cooking.

Methods

We started watching urplay,

Then we built a word bank with words we thought would be needed. We continued to split into groups and decide the menu. The students searched for recipes and made purchase lists. Afterwards we went shopping together. Finally, we went to the school’s kitchen for lessons and cooked. The students were asked to film each other while doing different parts of the meal.

Materials

Assessment

The assessment was done continuously during the course of work and the final result was seen at the time of cooking.

ICT

The technology is used throughout the work process, both for information search and for recording the results.

eTwinning

Mobility

The students decided the work area, the course of work and the assesment. They owned the entire work process while I, as a teacher, was available as support.

Stakeholders

Success

What made the project a success was that the students were not only involved in the project, but also contributed to it from start to finish. Another thing that made the project successful was the use of languages in a more accessible context than the classroom. I felt that the students dared more and took more risks when expressing themselves orally. Although the environment in a classroom is permissive, it would be much nicer and more natural to use the French language in the kitchen.

Teachers

I have seen fantastic collaboration, motivation based learning and enjoy good food with satisfied students.

Pupils

We learned to use words in real situations

It was great fun to plan and implement the entire theme. And it was fun to eat good food that we had cooked together “
