Description

Our group has 29 students who are 15 or 16 years old. Animation and graphical representation of the laws of motion (Physics)

Goals

Understand the physical meaning of the laws of motion, either in its graphic representation, is the behavior of the object it represents.

Methods

1st step: Teacher provides to students a working model with the mathematical expressions of the laws of a certain motion and starting discusses with them the behaviour of mobile and its graphical representations at the intervals considered.

Materials

Modellus is a free software which enables students and teachers (high school and university) to use mathematics to create or explore models interactively. ModellusX gives you the possibility of creating animations with interactive objects that have mathematical properties expressed in the model. It also permits the analysis of experimental data in the form of images, animations, charts and tables. Modellus focuses on modeling and on the meaning of models.

Assessment

ICT

The teacher may use this tool to show the behavior of the model described on the mathematical expression and discuss that with students, changing parameter and predict the results.

When students understand the tool, they may use it to create new approaches and explore new scenarios by themselves.

Success

It a great didactic tool to make them understand the physics linked with mathematics, reduce the graphics difficulties and promote the development of several skills.

Pupils

Not the easiest tool in the beginning but, with some patience, they enjoy very much.
