Vocational Educational Training School in Almada, south of Lisbon (about 350 students. Students’ age: 14-23)

Goals

To discover and study thermal energy, materials’ characteristics, thermal conduction, thermal convection and thermal radiation.

Methods

Students explore and discover, using simulations, real experiments, temperature sensors and Arduinos. They make graphics of temperature and develop discussion on what is the best thermal isolators. They make predictions and determine the thermal flux thru materials. To do that, they use a total of eight on-line inquiry learning scenarios.

Materials

Smartphones, tablets, computers, interactive whiteboard, internet and inquiry learning scenarios.

Assessment

Students must explore the provided inquiry learning scenarios and make presentations.

ICT

Students can use ICT to predict and record their findings.

Mobility

Students work in groups and are allowed to walk around the classroom to make experiments and to use the interactive whiteboard.
