525 pupils aged 8-13. High number of EAL pupils

Goals

Typing Club enables pupils to effectively type without needing to look down at the keyboard using all ten fingers. It aids the child’s development of fine motor skills. It ensures the children can focus on the task at hand rather than the skill of typing. It is an online resource where students can practice in class or at home.

Methods

The website is divided into many lessons where pupils’ skills are tested as the levels progress. Teachers use typing club to instil competence in pupils’ typing skills which can be progressed into cross-curricular activities.

Assessment

Pupils engage with the various levels at their  own pace where progress is saved so teacher’s can track the child’s progression. Scoreboard assists with assessment as pupils’ practice time, average accuracy, average WPM speed and overall progress is recorded. Teachers have the option of assigning external typing tasks where pupils can transition their skills from typing club to their own individual work.

ICT

Pupils’ typing competence is developed through the website and this gives pupils the ability to type their own stories and projects.
