Name of school

Kryddgårdsskolan (School of Kryddgård)

Description

School in the third biggest town of Sweden, in a multicultural area. The school has 400 pupils between the age of 6 and 15.

Goals

Increase the pupils ability to read, write and collaborate. We also want our pupils to develop their ability to work with and improve a text, based on genre and assessment for learning. By working together, they can achieve more and their grades can improve.

Methods

Inspired by the method Writing to Read by Arne Trageton, the pupils work in pairs preparing, writing, improving and reading their own texts. The work is based on language development structures, genre-based pedagogy and sociocultural theories of learning. By using the computer, the formation of letters doesn’t become an obstacle for the young pupils and the texts become longer. They also get fundamental knowledge about ICT.

Materials

We use Chromebooks and Google Documents, so the teacher can comment the work of the pupils and follow the process.

Assessment

Learning matrix in writing and reading allow us to work with peer and self-assessment. By using the computer, it is easy to compare the first version with the final work, so the pupils can follow their own development.

ICT

Google Documents are being used to make it easy for pupils to write together and for the teacher to comment the work and follow the process.

eTwinning

Mobility

The pupils are involved in the process, from the beginning to the assessment.

Stakeholders

By using Google Documents, the parents can look at the texts at home.

Success

Already in grade 1, the pupils can create texts from different genres using grammatical structures. The texts are also easy for the reader to understand.
