Using ICT to study Waves

My work group has 23 students (ages 15-16)
The aim of the project is that students understand wave characteristics. It is an i interdisciplinary project between Geology and Physics. They should learn about mechanical waves and eletromagnetic waves, their property, differences and
Students, working in groups of 4, start by watching some motivational videos about seismology and the impacts of some earthquakes.
Then they watch some other videos explaning the tectonic of planet earth, what causes earthquakes, the diferente types of seismic waves and how they travel on earth.
They will study some properties of the waves (frequency, period, amplitude), and the diferences about transversal and longitudinal waves. (Teacher will provide them with some simulations, and theorical material about waves).
They will use the on line lab Wave on a string (PHET) to test some hypothesis about the relation between the frequency and wavelenght of a wave.
After that, they are told to investigate about of sound waves and eletromagnetic waves.
They can use the labs Sound waves, Bending light and Wave Interference (PHET) to learn more about the waves
At the end of the activity they should write a report, to present to the class, with their conclusions and what they have learned about seismic waves, why they travel differently inside earth, the differences and similarities about sound waves and eletromognetic waves.
Computers, tablets, internet conection.
Work with inquiry learning scenarios and on line labs.
Constantly analyzing what they are doing and their reports.
If necessary provide themwith other resources.
The on-line labs and the inquiry learning scenarios are appealing to the students.
Also they allow them to experiment, to make mistakes, to repeat and learn with their mistakes.
They can work in class and outside the class.
